Yesterday, Tuesday 25th, the Mayor of the city of Cork received in his office the representation of the Cider Cities
LA SIDRA – Joe Carroll has listened to the proposals of the Asturians, showing a deep interest in them and agreeing to meet again in Asturies during the Atlantic Cities Assembly, which this year will be held in Xixón. His disposition has been very positive, committing himself to start working immediately with the Cork City Council to continue with the process of adhesion to the Cider Cities.
In the afternoon the delegation of the European Cider Cities, together with representatives of Stonewell Cider Press, the Mayor of Cork City and representatives of Cork City Council, moved to a public space where they planted a ‘verdialona’ apple tree – a variety included in the PDO Sidre d’Asturies – from Cándamo nurseries, the first Asturian apple tree (as far as we know) planted in Ireland for centuries.
The day ended with a visit to the Stonewell cider press, where there was an interesting cider tasting, both from the cider maker himself and from several of the participants in the SISGA, an event that the Irish cider maker has been attending for some years now.
